Say NO to the Saudi Arms Deal (SAD)!

In a move that is completely perplexing, the Bush administration is attempting to sell $20 billion in arms to Saudi Arabia. At the Institute on Religion and Public Policy we adamantly oppose such a move given Saudi Arabia's terrible human rights history, particularly when it comes to religious freedom, the most fundamental human right.

If we proceed with this arms agreement, we will be arming the very principles we are fighting against at this moment.

Please help us send a clear message to our national leaders that America is saying NO to tyranny and religious oppression. Read our petition below and fill in the form to add your signature.

To: Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner

The proposed $20 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia is a violation of the policies President George W. Bush outlined in his second inaugural address as such military support would embolden a nation that exemplifies the worst qualities of tyranny and oppression against fundamental human rights.

According to our own State Department, Saudi Arabia is guilty of innumerable violations of human rights, including the fundamental human right to religious freedom.

It is hard to imagine a country that could be more oppressive towards its people than Saudi Arabia is today. President Bush's $20 billion arms sale not only ignores those "who live in tyranny and hopelessness," it actually arms and strengthens the oppressors.

It is with these human rights violations in mind, particularly the complete disregard of the fundamental right to religious freedom, that I respectfully demand you remember the words President Bush has forgotten and vote NO on authorizing the $20 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia.

We've made this mistake before - let's not make it again.

Please, in the name of America's fight against tyranny and extremism, the cause of human rights worldwide and, most importantly, the oppressed peoples of Saudi Arabia "yearning to breathe free" say NO to the Saudi arms deal!

Respectfully submitted,
